You know Jesus is the one you want to follow. Look who's in His Kingdom!
We're back in Matthew - our You Know sermon series. Matthew writes to a Jewish audience - an audience who knows what to be looking for in the promised, coming King. Matthew's formula is simple: This is what the King is supposed to do. This is what Jesus has done. Therefore Jesus must be the King!
This week we see Matthew declare the awesome-come-follow-me-ness of Jesus by pointing out who is in Jesus's Kingdom. Contrasted to our kingdom's filled with people we like or want to be liked by, Jesus's Kingdom citizenry is full of all the poor and powerless. Here, a Jewish leper: Unclean. Cut-off. A Centurion: Gentile. Occupier. And, believe it or not, a mother-in-law! (We all know how we feel about them)! Seriously, a woman: doubted, dishonored.
Bigger than these, you know Jesus is the one you want to follow. Look who's in His Kingdom! He's willing to heal you.
