Week 13 - August 14, 2016

These liturgies are adapted from Boa’s (1993) Handbook to Prayer

•Adoration•

Read Psalm 139.1-6
Voice your own prayer of adoration for God in his might and majesty and care for you

•Confession•

Lord, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.
(Psalm 41:4)

Voice a prayer of confession of sin and thank God for his forgiveness in Jesus Christ

•Renewal•

May I not worry about my life, what I will eat or what I will drink; or about my body, what I will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. The birds of the air do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet my heavenly Father feeds them. Am I not much more valuable than they? Who by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do I worry about clothes? I will consider how the lilies of the field grow; they neither labor nor spin, yet not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe me? So may I not worry, saying, “What shall I eat?” or “What shall I drink?” or “What shall I wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and my heavenly Father knows that I need them. But may I seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, and all these things will be added to me.
(Matthew 6:25–33; Luke 12:22–31)

Pause to add your own prayers for personal renewal.

•Petition•

May I follow Your commands and precepts and be careful to observe them, for this is my wisdom and understanding in the sight of others.
(Deuteronomy 4:5–6)

Pray that God would help you to see yourself as someone that God would use to share the Good News of new life in Jesus.
Pray that God would help you to be able to gladly ‘report’ what God’s doing through your conversations with other people.
Pray that God would help you to be continually exhorted and encouraged, because life as a Christian, especially one who participates in the Gospel, is hard.

•Intercession•

But let all who take refuge in You be glad; Let them ever sing for joy, Because You defend them. And let those who love Your name be joyful in You.
(Psalm 5:11)

Voice a prayer for God’s favor and protection on those who Christians in our country and around the world.
Voice a prayer for God’s wisdom and justice for church planters and missionaries.
Pray that God would call the Great Commission greatly completed, and that Christ would return now.

•Thanksgiving•

The Father Himself loves me because I have loved Jesus and have believed that He came forth from God.
(John 16:27)

Voice a prayer of thanksgiving to God, especially for Jesus Christ and his work of salvation

•Communal Prayer•

We will all stand before the judgment seat of God. For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before Me, And every tongue will confess to God.” So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
(Romans 14:10b–12)
