Leadership comes from membership. We believe that God has provided every gift and every talent through every person in our church (I Corinthians 1.7). Further, as a Gospel-Centered, church planting church we believe that within our church, and people who are coming to our church that aren't even here yet, God has prepared leaders that will be discovered and developed through The Church in DeKalb. Therefore, members play an integral role as our church.
Our Council of Elders
Jamie Page: Lead Pastor
Pastor Jamie believes that the most important thing about people is our view of God, and to the extent that our view of God is distorted our life will be out of focus. The only way to have a right view of God is to be transformed by the Gospel which is the only way to know God rightly.
He came to DeKalb after realizing three things: DeKalb is a beautiful city, a broken city, and a city that the Gospel can and is redeeming.
Pastor Jamie graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. He was called to ministry and served at First Baptist Church Wood Dale, IL. He served as the Pastor of Single Adults at Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano, TX. Jamie and his wife Cherron have been married for 15 years and have two children, Noel and Calvin.
At heart, Paul is a teacher and a shepherd. He loves helping make people feel welcome and connected and is passionate about people reading and understanding the words about Christ.
Paul grew up in western Texas where he learned and understood the gospel and felt God’s call to be an ambassador for His kingdom. From an earthly standpoint, mathematics brought him to DeKalb to teach at NIU, but he also clearly sees God’s providence in leading he and his wife Stephanie The Church in DeKalb.
Paul and Stephanie were married in 2010, the same year they moved to DeKalb, and thus their married life so far has been blessed and supported by our broader church family. It can be hard living states away from natural family, but God has met their needs in abundance through our church family.
Above all else, Randy wants to know God and make God known. To that end, he has devoted his life to the study and teaching of God’s Word. He never ceases to marvel at the wisdom and power of God in Three Persons; and he is moved by the beauty of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He seeks to glorify God by magnifying Christ in himself and others.
Randy was born and raised in Minnesota, and he became a follower of Christ at a young age. He graduated from Northwestern College (now University of Northwestern, St. Paul) in 2009 with a degree in biblical studies and immediately moved to Louisville, KY, to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating with a M.Div. in 2013. In 2015, Randy moved to Illinois to study philosophy at Northern Illinois University. He joined The Church in DeKalb because he believes in its vision: to redeem and restore the broken by the power of the gospel.
Randy met his lovely wife, Heather, in the sixth grade, and married her when they were 20 in 2007. God has blessed Randy and Heather with two beautiful daughters, Evelyn and Greta.
Having grown up in a Christian home, Stephanie has been exposed to Christ all her life. She is truly amazed at just how dynamic and simple the Gospel is as she continues to learn more about a God that has no end. Stephanie has been so excited to hear the Gospel taught in a way that captivates and challenges her heart for Jesus at The Church in DeKalb.
A verse that has struck Stephanie about her caring for the church is this, “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the LORD Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Col. 3:17. Her desires are to take the training and knowledge she has learned from previous administrative experience and honor God with using her gifts and talents in that. She has a joy and passion in being able to work in this way. Stephanie and her family arrived at The Church in DeKalb in the fall of 2014 and have been excited to grow in the LORD as a family and serve the LORD as a family.
Stephanie has been married to her husband, Willie since 2006. They have settled in Sycamore in 2011 and have been given the blessings of two children, Chloe and soon to be born baby, Alexie.
Emily is propelled by the love God has given her in Christ to extend His loving hand to those who need it. She is also passionate about ensuring that the children of the church have all that they need to learn the truths of the gospel.
Over the last thirteen years, God has brought her along a path both academically and practically of leading and caring for children in a variety of settings. All of this prepared Emily to fill her current role as Director of Children’s Ministry.
Ryan and Emily met in the church and were married in July 2012. They reside in Genoa where they await the arrival of baby Jonathan in August 2013.
In serving at The Church in DeKalb, Dawn’s vision is to help foster an environment to help our people know, experience and worship our amazing God. She is passionate about leading people into God’s presence and teaching people to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, who teaches us how to worship. Dawn finds great joy in encouraging our people to use their gifts and talents to further God’s kingdom here in DeKalb, IL.
Along with her leadership opportunities at The Church in DeKalb, Dawn also teaches music in two local elementary schools. Dawn would say that the best part about serving is the opportunity to use her talents learned in school as a way to glorify God. Dawn loves the fact that she can use music as a tool for worshiping the Lord.
Because Dawn’s family currently lives in the far off lands of Texas and California, she has seen The Church in DeKalb has stepped into her life in an amazing way. Jesus has shown Dawn in a very real and tangible way how His church really is a body and that we can be united through Christ.
